Locust, NC is located approximately 12 miles beyond I-485 bypass east of Charlotte at the crossroads of NC 24/27 and NC 200.

Developer, Main Street Property LLC, is building a new town center on 120 acres located in the center of Locust. Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company is serving as town planner.

The goal is "to create a new soul for Locust whose soul was taken away when the businesses were bulldozed in preparation for the widening of hwy. 24/27," said Tom Low, DPZ Representative. The design is modeled on villages such as Pinehurst and Davidson and creates a city center that provides a sense of place and a sense of community.

The Locust Town Center is emphasizing green space, architectural integrity, and recreational opportunities with easy access to shopping, medical facilities and commerce. It will ensure a high quality of life, culture, and other amenities including the arts and family entertainment.

"Locust is fortunate that the partners of Main Street Property LLC are dedicated to building a town center that will enhance our community's lifestyle. By combining the best of yesterday with the advantages of today, our community values will be preserved while being a model for future generations." - Harold E. Greene,
Mayor City of Locust
